Marco Gizzi: Stillness in time
Throughout his career, Marco Gizzi’s paintings have increasingly tended towards a radiant form of inspiration, filled with an aura that does not derive from a reflection but instead lives by its own light, existing and enduring within a dimension that is one of sublime eternity.
Stillness in Time is an ode to that which remains: its key concept is a latent stillness, the sign of a conscious endurance rather than an absence of life. In its adverbial sense, the word still speaks not only of considerations of time, but also of resistance to the passage of time itself. The necessity is that of staying, of remaining, of being devoted to presence.
Gizzi’s Nature therefore carries an intrinsic responsibility: it is not lifeless, but becomes presence and trust. In the shadow of his subjects lies an implicit aspiration towards a simple, humble, and essential beauty, one that transcends hyperrealism to find refuge in symbolic contemplation. Strawberries, pomegranates, lemons: they nourish (hopes), resting upon affectionate and delicate supports that brush against space within the intimacy of memory.
At Liquid | Positano 16, the vernissage is scheduled for Saturday, September 5 at 7 p.m. On this occasion, the exhibition catalogue will also be presented. On display in Positano, Marco Gizzi’s latest body of work drifts through the memory of a summer: on a morning made of little noise and an abundance of time, Gizzi’s paintings become an anchor within the flow of time, and once again a promise of a long-awaited return.
Marco Gizzi is an Italian artist whose painterly practice has evolved over more than two decades around the themes of nature, light, and time. Through a highly refined technique and a profound sensitivity to the materiality of paint, his work has gradually moved beyond the realm of hyperrealism toward a more contemplative and symbolic vision, in which everyday objects, fruit, and flowers become suspended presences, preserving memory and meaning. His practice is grounded in a slow and rigorous process, with each work emerging from close observation of reality and the careful construction of light. In this way, the natural world is transformed into an experience of stillness and contemplation. His works have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, and are held in both public and private collections. His ongoing artistic research explores the relationship between permanence and transformation, inviting viewers to rediscover the value of simplicity and attentive observation.
