Willy Verginer: Sogno e tutto sembra blu
Sogno e tutto sembra blu (Dreaming, and everything seems blue) will open to the public on June 20th at 7 PM, in the presence of the artist, and will present his latest body of work. The exhibition takes its title from Verginer’s public installation, promoted by Liquid art system in Capri’s iconic Piazzetta. The monumental sculpture, on view until August 2026, depicts a sleeping girl resting among water lilies.
As the artist explains, the work is “a subtle connection with the unconscious and with nature. Water preserves the depth of the soul. Beneath this apparent serenity appears the moray eel, an enigmatic and ambiguous presence representing the silent shadow that crosses our dreams; at the same time, however, it watches over the girl and protects her.”
The sculpture is rendered in the distinctive “Capri Blue”, a tone that allows the figure to merge harmoniously with the surrounding natural environment. A poetic and dreamlike dialogue between humanity and nature becomes the central thread running throughout the exhibition.
Willy Verginer is an absolute master of wood sculpture, capable of making contemporary a genre tied to the tradition of South Tyrolean craftsmanship. What is astonishing is not only the perfect technique, but the surrealist poetics with which he carves his figures, which, enchantingly, become the characters of a fairy-tale world: just a few hints, a line of color, an alienating detail, are enough to bring the viewer into a fairy tale.
